Komödie
Komödie, in der zeitgenössischen Bedeutung des Begriffs, ist jede Diskussion oder Arbeit, die allgemein dazu bestimmt ist, humorvoll zu sein oder zu lachen, indem sie Lachen hervorbringt, vor allem im Theater, Fernsehen, Film und Stand-up-Komödie. Dieser Sinn des Wortes muss sorgfältig von seinem akademischen, nämlich dem komischen Theater, dessen westlichen Ursprünge im alten Griechenland gefunden werden, unterschieden werden. In der athenischen Demokratie wurde die öffentliche Meinung der Wähler von der politischen Satire der komischen Dichter der Theater beeinflusst. Das theatralische Genre kann einfach als eine dramatische Aufführung beschrieben werden, die zwei Gesellschaften gegeneinander in einem amüsanten Agon oder Konflikt platziert. Northrop Frye repräsentierte diese beiden gegensätzlichen Seiten als "Gesellschaft der Jugend" und eine "Gesellschaft des Alten", aber diese Dichotomie wird selten als eine völlig befriedigende Erklärung beschrieben. Eine spätere Ansicht kennzeichnet den wesentlichen Agon der Komödie als einen Kampf zwischen einer relativ kraftlosen Jugend und den gesellschaftlichen Konventionen, die Hindernisse für seine Hoffnungen darstellen.
