Cornwall ist eine zeremonielle Grafschaft und Einheitsbehörde von England, innerhalb des Vereinigten Königreichs. Cornwall ist eine Halbinsel, die im Norden und Westen durch die keltische See, im Süden durch den Ärmelkanal und im Osten von der Grafschaft Devon über den Fluss Tamar begrenzt ist. Cornwall hat eine Bevölkerung von 536.000 und erstreckt sich über eine Fläche von 3.563 km2. Das Verwaltungszentrum und nur die Stadt in Cornwall ist Truro, obwohl die Stadt St Austell die größte Bevölkerung hat. Cornwall bildet den westlichsten Teil der Süd-West-Halbinsel der Insel Großbritannien, und ein großer Teil des Cornubian Batholith ist in Cornwall. Dieser Bereich wurde zuerst in den paläolithischen und mesolithischen Zeiten bewohnt. Es wurde weiterhin von neolithischen und dann bronzezeitlichen Völkern besetzt und später von Brythons mit ausgeprägten kulturellen Beziehungen zu den benachbarten Wales und der Bretagne. Es gibt wenig Beweise dafür, dass die römische Herrschaft westlich von Exeter wirksam war und nur wenige römische Überreste gefunden wurden.
