Sie kommen in vielen verschiedenen Unterformen, und in der Regel kühlen die Erde durch die Reflexion der eingehenden Sonnenstrahlung. Cumuluswolken sind Teil der größeren Kategorie von frei konvektiven kumulativen Wolken, die Cumulonimbuswolken einschließen.
