Abschweifung
Digression ist ein Abschnitt einer Komposition oder Rede, die eine absichtliche Veränderung des Subjekts ist. In der klassischen Rhetorik seit Corax von Syrakus, besonders in der Institutio Oratoria von Quintilian, war die Abschweifung ein regelmäßiger Teil irgendeiner Oration oder Komposition. Nachdem er das Thema eines Werkes aufgestellt und die Notwendigkeit einer Aufmerksamkeit auf sich gelegt hat, würde der Sprecher oder Autor an ein scheinbar getrenntes Thema abschweifen, bevor es zu einer Entwicklung des Kompositionsthemas, einem Beweis seiner Gültigkeit und einer Schlussfolgerung zurückkehrt. Eine Schizothemie ist eine Abschweifung durch eine lange Reminiszenz. Cicero war ein Meister der Abschweifung, vor allem in seiner Fähigkeit, sich von der spezifischen Frage oder Frage zur Hand auf die allgemeinere Frage oder Frage, die es hing ab. Wie es bei den meisten uralten Rednern der Fall war, stellte sich Cicero's offensichtliche Abschweifung immer direkt auf das Thema aus. Während des zweiten Sophisten war die Fähigkeit, eine Rede von einem erwähnten Thema zu führen und dann wieder mit Gnade und Geschick zu kommen, um ein Zeichen der wahren Beredsamkeit zu sein.
