Diskriminierende Traditionen, Politiken, Ideen, Praktiken und Gesetze gibt es in vielen Ländern und Institutionen in jedem Teil der Welt, auch in denen, in denen die Diskriminierung im Allgemeinen betrachtet wird. An manchen Orten wurden umstrittene Versuche wie Quoten oder bejahende Maßnahmen verwendet, um denjenigen zu begegnen, die als gegenwärtig oder vergangene Opfer von Diskriminierung angesehen wurden -, aber manchmal auch als umgekehrte Diskriminierung bezeichnet worden sind.
