Kuppel des Felsens
Die Kuppel des Felsens ist ein Schrein auf dem Tempelberg in der Altstadt von Jerusalem. Es wurde ursprünglich in 691 CE im Auftrag von Umayyad Kalifen Abd al-Malik während der zweiten Fitna, jetzt eines der ältesten Werke der islamischen Architektur abgeschlossen. Die gewölbte zentrale Planstruktur wurde nach der christlichen Kirche des Heiligen Grabes gemustert. Die Struktur bleibt eines der klarsten Beispiele des byzantinischen Einflusses auf die früh islamische Architektur. Die Bedeutung der Baustelle beruht auf religiösen Traditionen in Bezug auf den Fels, der als Stiftungsstein bekannt ist, der in seinem Herzen eine große Bedeutung für Juden, Christen und Muslime hat.
