Ergosterol
Ergosterol ist ein Sterol in Pilzen gefunden, und benannt nach Ergot, ein gemeinsamer Name für die Mitglieder der Pilz-Gattung Claviceps, aus denen Ergosterol wurde zuerst isoliert. Ergosterol tritt nicht in pflanzlichen oder tierischen Zellen auf. Es ist ein Bestandteil von Hefe und Pilz-Zellmembranen, die die gleiche Funktion Cholesterin dient in tierischen Zellen. Ergosterol wird gelegentlich analytisch berichtet, um in Gräsern wie Roggen und Luzerne, und in Pflanzenblumen wie Hopfen auftreten. Jedoch wird ein solcher Nachweis gewöhnlich als Erkennung des Pilzwachstums auf der Pflanze angenommen, da Pilze einen integralen Teil des Graszersetzungssystems bilden. Diese Ergosterol-Assay-Technik kann somit verwendet werden, um Gras-, Getreide- und Zufuhrsysteme für Pilzgehalt zu untersuchen. Da Ergosterol das Provitamin von Vitamin D2 ist, kann die Ultraviolettstrahlung von Pilz-tragenden Gras-Materialien zu Vitamin D2-Produktion führen, aber dies ist die Produktion einer Form von Vitamin D aus Pilz Ergosterol und ist nicht wahr Vitamin D Produktion von der Pflanze selbst aus UV-Licht, ein Prozess, der nicht passieren kann.
