Ergot- oder Ergot-Pilze bezieht sich auf eine Gruppe von Pilzen der Gattung Claviceps. Das prominenteste Mitglied dieser Gruppe ist Claviceps purpurea. Purpurea am häufigsten beeinflusst outcrossing Arten wie Roggen, sowie Triticale, Weizen und Gerste. Es betrifft nur Hafer nur selten. C. purpurea hat mindestens drei Rassen oder Sorten, die sich in ihrer Wirtsspezifität unterscheiden: ▪ G1 - Landgräser offener Wiesen und Felder; ▪ G2 - Gräser aus Feucht-, Wald- und Berglebensräumen; ▪ G3 - Salzwiesen.
