Freewoman
Die Freewoman war eine feministische Wochenzeitung zwischen 23. November 1911 und 10. Oktober 1912 und von Dora Marsden und Mary Gawthorpe herausgegeben. Obwohl die Freewoman Artikel über die Arbeit der Frauen, die Hausarbeit, die Mutterschaft, die Wahlrechtsbewegung und die Literatur veröffentlichte, beruhte ihre Berühmtheit und ihr Einfluss auf ihren offenen Diskussionen über Sexualität, Moral und Ehe. Die Freewoman drängte die Toleranz für die männliche Homosexualität, befürwortete die freie Liebe und ermutigte die Frauen, unverheiratet zu bleiben. Die redaktionelle Haltung der Freewoman unterscheidet sie scharf von der Haltung der Suffragisten wie Millicent Fawcett, die in der Zeitschrift der Sexualität so störte, dass sie die erste Ausgabe in kleine Stücke zerriss. Im März 1912 trat Gawthorpe wegen der schlechten Gesundheit und Meinungsverschiedenheiten mit Marsden zurück. Im September 1912 weigerte sich W H Smith, die Freewoman zu tragen, und im Oktober 1912 faltete sich die Zeitschrift. Obwohl seine Zirkulation wahrscheinlich niemals 200 überschritten hat, hatte sie einen bedeutenden Einfluss in modernistischen Kreisen. Unter seinen Mitwirkenden waren Rebecca West, H. G. Wells, Edward Carpenter und Guy Aldred.
