Galvanisierung
Galvanisierung ist der Prozess der Anwendung einer schützenden Zinkbeschichtung auf Stahl oder Eisen, um Rostbildung zu verhindern. Der Begriff stammt aus dem Namen des italienischen Wissenschaftlers Luigi Galvani. Obwohl die Galvanisierung mit elektrochemischen und galvanischen Abscheidungsprozessen durchgeführt werden kann, ist die gängigste Methode in der gegenwärtigen Verwendung die Feuerverzinkung, bei der Stahlteile in ein Bad aus geschmolzenem Zink getaucht werden. In der Industrie steht der Begriff GI für verzinktem Eisen, der sich auf einen gängigen galvanisierten Stahl bezieht, der in vielen Anwendungen wie Luftkanälen und Mülleimer verwendet wird.
