Die westlichen zwei Drittel dieser Region sind derzeit von Israel besetzt, während das östliche Drittel von Syrien kontrolliert wird. ▪ Als geopolitische Region ist die Golanhöhe die von Syrien gefangene und von Israel besetzte Gebiet während des Sechs-Tage-Krieges, das Israel 1981 effektiv annektierte. Diese Region umfasst die westlichen zwei Drittel der geologischen Golanhöhen sowie Der israelisch besetzte Teil des Berges Hermon. Der früheste Beweis für die menschliche Bewohner liegt in der Oberpaläolithischen Zeit.
