Gonfalon
Der gonfalon, gonfalone oder "gonfanon" ist eine Art von heraldischer Fahne oder Banner, die oft spitz, schlucken-tailed oder mit mehreren Streamern und an einer Querlatte identisch mit dem alten römischen Vexillum suspendiert ist. Es wurde zuerst von italienischen mittelalterlichen Gemeinden und später von lokalen Gilden, Korporationen und Distrikten angenommen. Der Unterschied zwischen einem Gonfanon mit langen Schwänzen und einem Standard ist, dass ein Gonfanon zeigt das Gerät auf dem Nicht-Tailed-Bereich, und der Standard zeigt Abzeichen auf die ganze Länge der Flagge. Ein Gonfalon kann ein Abzeichen oder ein Wappen oder Ornamente von fancy Design enthalten. Heute hat jede italienische Gemeinde eine Waffe, die ihr Wappen trägt. Der Gonfalon ist seit langem für kirchliche Zeremonien und Prozessionen verwendet worden. Der päpstliche "ombrellino", ein Symbol des Papstes, wird von den Italienern oft fälschlicherweise "Gonfalone" genannt, weil der Zeremonialschirm des Papstes oft auf dem Banner abgebildet war. Gonfalone war ursprünglich der Name, der einem Nachbarschafts-Treffen im mittelalterlichen Florenz gegeben wurde, wobei jede Nachbarschaft eine eigene Flagge und ein Wappen hatte, was zu dem Wort Gonfalone führte, das schließlich mit der Flagge verbunden wurde.
