In der Teilchenphysik ist ein Hadron i / hædrɒn / ein zusammengesetztes Teilchen aus Quarks, die durch die starke Kraft zusammengehalten werden. Hadronen sind in zwei Familien kategorisiert: Baryonen und Mesonen. Ein Tetraquark-Staat namens Z- wurde 2014 von der LHCb-Kooperation entdeckt. Andere Arten von exotischen Hadronen können existieren, wie Pentaquarks, aber keine aktuellen Beweise schlüssig deuten auf ihre Existenz. Von den Hadronen sind Protonen stabil, und Neutronen, die innerhalb der Atomkerne gebunden sind, sind stabil, während andere Hadronen unter gewöhnlichen Bedingungen instabil sind; Freie Neutronen zerfallen mit einer Halbwertszeit von etwa 880 Sekunden.
