Henrietta Maria von Frankreich
Henrietta Maria von Frankreich war Königingemeinde von England, Schottland und Irland als die Frau von König Charles I. Sie war Mutter von seinen zwei unmittelbaren Nachfolgern, Charles II und James II. Ihre katholische Religion machte sie unpopulär in England und verboten sie auch, in einem anglikanischen Dienst gekrönt zu werden; Deshalb hatte sie nie eine Krönung. Sie fing an, sich in die nationalen Angelegenheiten einzutauchen, als der Bürgerkrieg am Horizont auftauchte und im Jahre 1644 nach der Geburt ihrer jüngsten Tochter Henrietta während der Höhe des ersten englischen Bürgerkrieges Zuflucht suchte. Die Hinrichtung von König Karl im Jahre 1649 ließ sie verarmt zurück. Sie setzte sich in Paris nieder und kehrte dann nach der Wiederherstellung ihres ältesten Sohnes, Karl, zum Thron nach England zurück. 1665 kehrte sie nach Paris zurück, wo sie vier Jahre später starb. Die nordamerikanische Provinz Maryland wurde in ihrer Ehre genannt, und der Name wurde in den aktuellen US-Bundesstaat Maryland übertragen.
