Supermacht
Eine Supermacht ist ein Staat mit einer beherrschenden Stellung in den internationalen Beziehungen und zeichnet sich durch eine unvergleichliche Fähigkeit aus, Einfluss oder Projektleistung auf globaler Ebene auszuüben. Dies geschieht durch das Mittel der militärischen und wirtschaftlichen Stärke, sowie diplomatischen und weichen Macht Einfluss. Traditionell sind Supermächte unter den Großmächten vorrangig. Der Begriff gilt zuerst für das britische Empire, die Vereinigten Staaten und die Sowjetunion. Doch nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg und der Suez-Krise im Jahre 1956 wurde der Status des britischen Empire als Supermacht stark vermindert; Für die Dauer des Kalten Krieges wurden die Vereinigten Staaten und die Sowjetunion allgemein als die beiden verbleibenden Supermächte angesehen, die die Weltgeschichte beherrschten. Seit dem Ende des Kalten Krieges und dem Zusammenbruch der Sowjetunion im Jahr 1991 scheint nur die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika die Kriterien einer Welt-Supermacht zu erfüllen. Alice Lyman Miller definiert eine Supermacht als "ein Land, das die Fähigkeit hat, die Macht zu beherrschen und irgendwo in der Welt zu beeinflussen, und manchmal in mehr als einer Region der Welt zu einer Zeit, und so kann es plausibel den Status der globalen Hegemonie erreichen .
