Eisfall
Ein Eisfall ist ein Teil von einigen Gletschern, die durch schnellen Fluss und eine chaotische Gipfeloberfläche gekennzeichnet sind. Vielleicht die auffälligste Folge des Gletscherflusses, treten Eisfälle auf, wo das Gletscherbett steigt und / oder verengt. Eine solche schnelle Strömung kann nicht durch plastische Verformung des Eises untergebracht werden. Stattdessen bilden die Eisfrakturen Gletscherspalten. Überschneidende Frakturen bilden Eisspalten oder Seracs. Diese Vorgänge sind zum größten Teil unmerklich; Allerdings kann ein serac kollabieren oder stürzen plötzlich und ohne Vorwarnung. Dieses Verhalten stellt oft das größte Risiko für Bergsteiger, die in einem Eisfall klettern. Unterhalb des Eisfalls, das Gletscherbett flacht und / oder erweitert und der Eisfluss verlangsamt sich. Gletscherspitzen schließen und die Gletscheroberfläche wird viel glatter und leichter zu durchqueren. Ein Eisfall, der in den Lambert-Gletscher, die Antarktis, einfließt. Eisfälle variieren stark in der Höhe.
