Imagismus
Imagismus war eine Bewegung in der anglo-amerikanischen Poesie des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts, die die Präzision der Bilder und die klare, scharfe Sprache begünstigte. Es wurde als die einflussreichste Bewegung in der englischen Poesie seit der Tätigkeit der Präraffaeliten beschrieben. Als poetischer Stil gab es Modernismus seinen Anfang im frühen 20. Jahrhundert und gilt als die erste organisierte modernistische literarische Bewegung in der englischen Sprache. Imagismus wird manchmal als "eine Folge von kreativen Momenten" angesehen, anstatt eine kontinuierliche oder anhaltende Entwicklungszeit. René Taupin bemerkte: "Es ist genauer, den Imagismus nicht als eine Lehre zu betrachten, noch als eine poetische Schule, sondern als die Vereinigung einiger Dichter, die für eine gewisse Zeit in Übereinstimmung mit einer kleinen Anzahl von wichtigen Prinzipien waren". Die Imagisten lehnten die Stimmung und die Diskursivität, die typisch für viel romantische und viktorianische Poesie waren, im Gegensatz zu ihren Zeitgenossen, die georgischen Dichter, die in der Regel zufrieden waren, in dieser Tradition zu arbeiten. Zu der Zeit, als der Imagismus auftauchte, wurden Longfellow und Tennyson als die Paragone der Poesie betrachtet, und die Öffentlichkeit schätzte den manchmal moralisierenden Ton ihrer Schriften.
