Ligand-gated Ionenkanäle sind eine Gruppe von Transmembran-Ionenkanalproteinen, die sich öffnen, um Ionen wie Na +, K +, Ca 2+ oder Cl- zu ermöglichen, durch die Membran als Reaktion auf die Bindung eines chemischen Boten, wie eines Neurotransmitters, zu gelangen. Viele LGICs werden zusätzlich durch allosterische Liganden, durch Kanalblocker, Ionen oder das Membranpotential moduliert. LGICs werden in drei Superfamilien klassifiziert, die keine evolutionäre Beziehung haben: Cys-Loop-Rezeptoren, Ionotropische Glutamat-Rezeptoren und ATP-Gated-Kanäle. LGICs können mit metabotropen Rezeptoren, spannungsgesteuerten Ionenkanälen und dehnungsaktivierten Ionenkanälen kontrastiert werden.
