Gelbsucht
Gelbsucht ist eine gelbliche Pigmentierung der Haut, die Bindehautmembranen über die Skleren und andere Schleimhäute, die durch Hyperbilirubinämie verursacht werden. Diese Hyperbilirubinämie verursacht anschließend erhöhte Bilirubinwerte in der extrazellulären Flüssigkeit. Die Konzentration von Bilirubin im Blutplasma liegt normalerweise unter 1,2 mg / dl. Eine Konzentration von mehr als 2,5 mg / dl führt zu Gelbsucht. Der Begriff Gelbsucht kommt aus dem französischen Wort jaune, was gelb bedeutet. Gelbsucht wird oft bei Lebererkrankungen wie Hepatitis oder Leberkrebs beobachtet. Es kann auch auf Leptospirose oder Verstopfung des Gallenganges hindeuten, z. B. durch Gallensteine oder Bauchspeicheldrüsenkrebs oder weniger häufig angeborene Herkunft. Gelbe Verfärbung der Haut, vor allem auf den Palmen und den Sohlen, aber nicht von der Sklera und Schleimhäute ist wegen der Carotinie - ein harmloser Zustand wichtig, um von Gelbsucht zu unterscheiden.
