Kabloona
Kabloona ist ein Buch des französischen Abenteurers Gontran de Poncins, geschrieben in Zusammenarbeit mit Lewis Galantiere. Es wurde zuerst in den Vereinigten Staaten im Jahre 1941 als eine Auswahl des Buch-of-the-Month-Clubs (über Time-Life-Bücher), in England 1942 und auf Französisch (als Übersetzung der englischen Version) 1947 veröffentlicht Das Buch enthält viele Zeichnungen des Autors und 32 Seiten Schwarzweißfotos in der Erstausgabe. In den Vereinigten Staaten, wo es am beliebtesten war, gilt es als ein Klassiker der Reiseliteratur. Kabloona erzählt Poncins Solo-ungestützte Reise in der kanadischen Arktis bei König William Island, Kanada, wo er mit dem Inuit (damals noch allgemein die Eskimos genannt) für etwa 15 Monate in der Zeit von 1938 bis Ende 1939 lebte. Poncins war ein Franzose Aristokratischen Graf in seinen späten dreißiger Jahren. Mit der Geschäftswelt gelangweilt, wurde Poncins freiberuflicher Journalist, damit er reisen konnte und seine Erfahrungen mit Zeitungen und Zeitschriften verhandeln konnte. Neugier zog ihn zu exotischen Gebieten auf der ganzen Welt - Tahiti, Neukaledonien, und schließlich (1938), die kanadische Arktis.
