Ein Laienleser ist ein Laie, der von einem Bischof in der anglikanischen Kommunion autorisiert wurde, um einige Teile eines Gottesdienstes zu lesen. Sie sind Mitglieder der Versammlung, die erlaubt ist, in einigen Diensten zu predigen und zu präsidieren, aber nicht zum Vollzeitministerium aufgerufen zu werden. In der anglikanischen Tradition ist die Rolle der lizenzierten Laienleser, deren Prominenz je nach Region variiert, ähnlich wie bei einem nichtkonformistischen Laienprediger und kann Folgendes beinhalten: ▪ Durchführung von Mattins, Evensong und Compline ▪ Aufzählen der Litanei ▪ Veröffentlichen von Banns Ehe ▪ Predigen, Lehren und Helfen in der Seelsorge ▪ Durchführung von Beerdigungen ▪ Verteilung der heiligen Kommunion. Obwohl in vielen Pfarreien diese Pflichten von jedem vernünftig kompetenten Laien, der ordnungsgemäß unterrichtet worden ist, durchgeführt werden kann, ist der Schlüssel für die Leserlizenz, dass er oder sie erlaubt ist, sie in Abwesenheit eines Priesters zu tun. Licensed Leser sind berechtigt, einen blauen Tippet mit Chorkleid zu tragen.
