Bei der kommerziellen Schifffahrt ist die Laiszeit die Zeit, die in einer Reisecharter für das Be- und Entladen von Fracht erlaubt ist. Wenn die Laienzeit überschritten wird, entsteht die Demurrage. Wenn die ganze Zeit der Laien nicht benötigt wird, kann die Versendung vom Reeder an den Charterer erfolgen, je nach den Bedingungen der Charterpartei. Laytime und Laydays sind oft verwirrt, da sie sich auf die gleiche Idee beziehen. Laydays bezieht sich auf die Zeit, in der sich ein Schiff dem Charterer präsentieren muss. Wenn das Schiff vor den angegebenen Tagen ankommt, muss der Charterer nicht die Kontrolle übernehmen oder mit dem Laden beginnen. Wenn das Schiff nach den Leihgaben ankommt, kann der Vertrag storniert werden - daher werden die Festtage oft als der Begriff Laydays und Cancelling angezeigt und können auf Laycan verkürzt werden. Der Zeitpunkt, zu dem die Ladenszeit beginnt, wird durch eine Bereitschaftsbereitschaft bestimmt, die der Herr oder Beauftragte des Schiffes dem Charterer geben muss, wenn das Schiff im Hafen der Ladung oder Entladung angekommen ist. Der NOR informiert den Charterer, dass das Schiff am Hafen angekommen ist und in jeder Hinsicht zum Laden oder Entladen bereit ist.
