Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (russisch: Владимир Ильич Ленин, IPA: (hören), geboren Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, 22. April 1870 - 21. Januar 1924) war ein russischer kommunistischer Revolutionär, Politiker und politischer Theoretiker. Er diente als Führer der russischen Sowjetischen Föderativen Sozialistischen Republik von 1917 und dann gleichzeitig als Ministerpräsident der Sowjetunion von 1922 bis zu seinem Tod. Unter seiner Verwaltung wurde das russische Reich aufgelöst und durch die Sowjetunion ersetzt, ein einseitiger sozialistischer Staat; Industrie und Unternehmen wurden verstaatlicht, mit weit verbreiteten gesellschaftlichen Reformen umgesetzt. Politisch ein Marxist, seine theoretischen Beiträge zum marxistischen Denken sind als Leninismus bekannt, die mit der marxistischen ökonomischen Theorie zusammengekommen sind, kollektiv als Marxismus-Leninismus bekannt zu sein. Geboren zu einer reichen bürgerlichen Familie in Simbirsk, gewann Lenin ein Interesse an revolutionärer linker Politik nach der Hinrichtung seines Bruders Aleksandr im Jahre 1887. Aus der Kazan State University zur Teilnahme an anti-zaristischen Protesten vertrieben, widmete er die folgenden Jahre einem Gesetz Grad und radikale Politik, ein Marxist werden.
