Medea
In der griechischen Mythologie war Medea die Tochter des Königs Aeëtes von Colchis, die Nichte von Circe, die Enkelin des Sonnengottes Helios und später die Frau des Helden Jason, mit dem sie zwei Kinder, Mermeros und Pheres hatte. In Euripides 'Spiel Medea verlässt Jason Medea, als Creon, König von Korinth, ihm seine Tochter Glauce anbietet. Das Spiel erzählt von Medea, der den Verrat ihres Mannes rächt, indem er ihre Kinder tötet. Die Mythen mit Jason wurden als Teil einer Klasse von Mythen interpretiert, die erzählen, wie die Hellenen der fernen heroischen Zeit vor dem Trojanischen Krieg den Herausforderungen der vorgriechischen "Pelasgier" -Kulturen des Festlands Griechenland, der Ägäis und Anatolien gegenüberstanden . Jason, Perseus, Theseus und vor allem Herakles sind alle "liminale" Figuren, die auf der Schwelle zwischen der alten Welt der Schamanen, den chthonischen Erdgottheiten und den neuen bronzezeitlichen griechischen Wegen liegen. Medea-Figuren im Mythos von Jason und den Argonauten, ein Mythos, der am besten aus einer späten literarischen Version bekannt ist, die von Apollonius von Rhodos im 3. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Aufgearbeitet wurde und die Argonautica nannte. Doch für all sein Selbstbewusstsein und erforschten archaischen Vokabular, das späte Epos basierte auf sehr alten, zerstreuten Materialien.
