Melanismus
Melanismus ist eine Entwicklung des dunkelfarbigen Pigment Melanins in der Haut oder seine Anhänge und ist das Gegenteil von Albinismus. Historisch war es auch der medizinische Begriff für schwarze Gelbsucht. Das Wort Melanismus wird aus dem Griechischen abgeleitet: μελανός, was bedeutet "schwarzes Pigment". Der Pseudomilanismus, der auch als Überfluss bezeichnet wird, ist eine weitere Pigmentvariante, die durch dunkle Flecken oder vergrößerte Streifen charakterisiert ist, die einen großen Teil des Tierkörpers bedecken und ihn melanistisch erscheinen lassen. Ein Mangel an oder völliges Fehlen von Melaninpigmenten heißt Amelanismus. Die krankhafte Ablagerung von schwarzer Materie, oft von einem bösartigen Charakter, der pigmentierte Tumore verursacht, heißt Melanose.
