Morse-Code ist eine Methode zur Übertragung von Textinformationen als eine Reihe von Ein-Aus-Tönen, Lichtern oder Klicks, die direkt von einem erfahrenen Zuhörer oder Beobachter ohne spezielle Ausrüstung verstanden werden können. Der Internationale Morse-Code kodiert das ISO-Grund-Latein-Alphabet, einige zusätzliche lateinische Buchstaben, die arabischen Ziffern und einen kleinen Satz von Interpunktions- und Prozedursignalen als standardisierte Sequenzen von kurzen und langen Signalen, die "Punkte" und "Bindestriche" oder "Dits" genannt werden "Dahs" Weil viele nicht-englische natürliche Sprachen mehr als die 26 römischen Buchstaben verwenden, existieren Erweiterungen zum Morse-Alphabet für diese Sprachen. Jedes Zeichen wird durch eine eindeutige Folge von Punkten und Bindestrichen dargestellt. Die Dauer eines Bindestrichs beträgt dreimal die Dauer eines Punktes. Jeder Punkt oder Bindestrich folgt einer kurzen Stille, gleich der Punktdauer. Die Buchstaben eines Wortes sind durch einen Raum gleich drei Punkten getrennt, und die Worte sind durch einen Raum gleich sieben Punkten getrennt. Die Punktdauer ist die Grundeinheit der Zeitmessung bei der Codeübertragung. Für die Effizienz ist die Länge jedes Charakters in Morse annähernd umgekehrt proportional zu seiner Häufigkeit des Auftretens in Englisch.

Morse code is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment. The International Morse Code encodes the ISO basic Latin alphabet, some extra Latin letters, the Arabic numerals and a small set of punctuation and procedural signals as standardized sequences of short and long signals called "dots" and "dashes", or "dits" and "dahs". Because many non-English natural languages use more than the 26 Roman letters, extensions to the Morse alphabet exist for those languages. Each character is represented by a unique sequence of dots and dashes. The duration of a dash is three times the duration of a dot. Each dot or dash is followed by a short silence, equal to the dot duration. The letters of a word are separated by a space equal to three dots, and the words are separated by a space equal to seven dots. The dot duration is the basic unit of time measurement in code transmission. For efficiency, the length of each character in Morse is approximately inversely proportional to its frequency of occurrence in English.
