De Stijl, Niederländisch für "Style", auch bekannt als Neoplastik, war eine niederländische künstlerische Bewegung, die 1917 in Amsterdam gegründet wurde. Der De Stijl bestand aus Künstlern und Architekten Im engeren Sinne wird der Begriff De Stijl verwendet, um sich auf eine von 1917 bis 1931 in den Niederlanden gegründete Arbeit zu beziehen. De Stijl ist auch der Name einer Zeitschrift, die von dem niederländischen Maler, Designer, Schriftsteller und Kritiker Theo van Doesburg veröffentlicht wurde, der dazu dient, die Theorie der Gruppe zu verbreiten. Neben van Doesburg waren die Hauptmitglieder der Gruppe die Maler Piet Mondrian, Vilmos Huszár und Bart van der Leck sowie die Architekten Gerrit Rietveld, Robert van 't Hoff und J. J. P. Oud. Die künstlerische Philosophie, die eine Grundlage für die Arbeit der Gruppe bildete, wird als Neoplastik bezeichnet - die neue Plastikkunst. Die Befürworter von De Stijl befürworteten reine Abstraktion und Universalität durch eine Reduktion auf das Wesentliche von Form und Farbe; Sie vereinfachten visuelle Kompositionen in vertikaler und horizontaler Richtung und verwendeten nur Primärfarben zusammen mit Schwarz und Weiß.
