Neutropenie
Neutropenie oder Neutropenie, aus dem lateinischen Präfix neutro- und griechischen Suffix -πενία, ist eine Granulozytenstörung, die durch eine ungewöhnlich geringe Anzahl von Neutrophilen gekennzeichnet ist. Neutrophile bilden in der Regel 50-70% der zirkulierenden weißen Blutkörperchen und dienen als primäre Verteidigung gegen Infektionen durch die Zerstörung von Bakterien im Blut. Daher sind Patienten mit Neutropenie anfälliger für bakterielle Infektionen und ohne sofortige ärztliche Betreuung kann die Bedingung lebensbedrohlich und tödlich werden. Neutropenie kann akut oder chronisch sein abhängig von der Dauer der Krankheit. Ein Patient hat eine chronische Neutropenie, wenn die Bedingung länger als drei Monate dauert. Es wird manchmal austauschbar mit dem Begriff Leukopenie verwendet, da Neutrophile die am häufigsten vorkommenden Leukozyten sind, aber Neutropenie wird genauer als eine Untermenge von Leukopenie als Ganzes betrachtet. Die zahlreichen Ursachen der Neutropenie können grob zwischen beiden Problemen bei der Herstellung der Zellen durch das Knochenmark und der Zerstörung der Zellen anderswo im Körper aufgeteilt werden.
