OPEC
OPEC ist ein internationales Organisations- und Wirtschaftskartell, dessen Aufgabe es ist, die Politik der Ölförderländer zu koordinieren. Ziel ist es, den Mitgliedsstaaten ein stetiges Einkommen zu sichern und die weltweiten Ölpreise durch wirtschaftliche Mittel zu beeinflussen. OPEC ist eine zwischenstaatliche Organisation, die auf der Bagdad-Konferenz am 10./14. September 1960 von Irak, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi-Arabien und Venezuela gegründet wurde. Später wurden neun weitere Regierungen beigetreten: Libyen, Vereinigte Arabische Emirate, Katar, Indonesien, Algerien, Nigeria, Ecuador, Angola und Gabun. Die OPEC hat ihren Hauptsitz in Genf, Schweiz, bevor sie am 1. September 1965 nach Wien fuhr. Die OPEC wurde zu einem Zeitpunkt gegründet, in dem der internationale Ölmarkt weitgehend von multinationalen Unternehmen, den "sieben Schwestern", dominiert wurde. Die "Policy Statement" der OPEC besagt, dass es ein Recht aller Länder gibt, die Souveränität über ihre natürlichen Ressourcen auszuüben. Weil die OPEC eine Länderorganisation ist, haben einzelne Mitglieder eine souveräne Immunität für ihre Handlungen, was bedeutet, dass die OPEC nicht in der Regel als wettbewerbsrechtlich angesehen wird.
