Der kategorische Imperativ ist der zentrale philosophische Begriff in der deontologischen Moralphilosophie von Immanuel Kant. Eingeführt in Kants 1785 Erdung für die Metaphysik der Moral, kann es als eine Möglichkeit der Bewertung von Motivationen für das Handeln definiert werden. Nach Kant besetzen die Menschen einen besonderen Platz in der Schöpfung, und die Sittlichkeit kann in einem zwingenden oder endgültigen Gebot der Vernunft zusammengefasst werden, aus dem alle Pflichten und Pflichten abgeleitet sind. Er definierte einen Imperativ, wie jeder Satz, der eine bestimmte Handlung erklärt, um notwendig zu sein. Hypothetische Imperative gelten für jemanden, der gewisse Ziele erreichen will. Zum Beispiel: ▪ Wenn ich meinen Durst löschen will, muss ich etwas trinken; ▪ Wenn ich Wissen erwerben möchte, muss ich lernen. Ein kategorischer Imperativ hingegen bezeichnet eine absolute, bedingungslose Forderung, die unter allen Umständen gehorcht werden muss und als Selbstzweck gerechtfertigt ist. Es ist am besten in seiner ersten Formulierung bekannt: Handeln Sie nur nach jener Maxime, mit der Sie zugleich ein universelles Gesetz werden können.

The categorical imperative is the central philosophical concept in the deontological moral philosophy of Immanuel Kant. Introduced in Kant's 1785 Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals, it may be defined as a way of evaluating motivations for action. According to Kant, human beings occupy a special place in creation, and morality can be summed up in an imperative, or ultimate commandment of reason, from which all duties and obligations derive. He defined an imperative as any proposition declaring a certain action to be necessary. Hypothetical imperatives apply to someone who wishes to attain certain ends. For example: ▪ if I wish to quench my thirst, I must drink something; ▪ if I wish to acquire knowledge, I must learn. A categorical imperative, on the other hand, denotes an absolute, unconditional requirement that must be obeyed in all circumstances and is justified as an end in itself. It is best known in its first formulation: Act only according to that maxim whereby you can, at the same time, will that it should become a universal law.
