Ein paean / piːən / ist ein Lied oder lyrisches Gedicht, das Triumph oder Danksagung ausdrückt. In der klassischen Antike wird es gewöhnlich von einem Chor durchgeführt, aber einige Beispiele sind für eine individuelle Stimme gedacht. Es kommt aus dem griechischen παιάν, "Lied des Triumphs, irgendein feierliches Lied oder Gesang". "Paeon" war auch der Name eines göttlichen Arztes und ein Epitheton von Apollo.
