Parasexueller Zyklus
Der parasexuelle Zyklus, ein Prozeß, der für Pilze und einzellige Organismen eigen ist, ist ein nichtsexueller Mechanismus für die Übertragung von genetischem Material ohne Meiose oder die Entwicklung von sexuellen Strukturen. Es wurde zuerst von dem italienischen Genetiker Guido Pontecorvo im Jahre 1956 während der Studien über Aspergillus nidulans beschrieben. Ein parasexueller Zyklus wird durch die Verschmelzung von Hyphen initiiert, in denen Kerne und andere zytoplasmatische Komponenten die gleiche Zelle einnehmen. Die Fusion der unähnlichen Kerne in der Zelle des Heterokaryons führt zur Bildung eines diploiden Kerns, der vermutlich instabil ist und Segregante durch Rekombination mit mitotischer Kreuzung und Haploidisierung hervorbringen kann. Mitotische Kreuzung kann zum Austausch von Genen auf Chromosomen führen; Während die Haploidisierung vermutlich mitotische Nondisjunktionen beinhaltet, die die Chromosomen zufällig neu sortieren und zur Produktion von aneuploiden und haploiden Zellen führen. Wie ein sexueller Zyklus gibt die Parasexualität den Spezies die Möglichkeit, das Genom zu rekombinieren und neue Genotypen in ihren Nachkommen zu produzieren. Im Gegensatz zu einem Sexualzyklus fehlt dem Prozess die Koordination und ist ausschließlich mitotisch. Der parasxuelle Zyklus ähnelt der sexuellen Reproduktion.
