Ein Parsi oder Parsee / pɑrsiː / ist Mitglied einer der beiden zoroastrischen Gemeinden in ganz Asien. Sie sind ethnisch von dem Iranis verschieden, obwohl beide Gruppen von den persischen Zoroastrern abstammen. Nach der Qissa-i-Sanjan-Tradition stürzen die heutigen Parsis von einer Gruppe von Zoroastrern aus Groß-Iran ab, die am 8. oder 10. Jahrhundert an die westlichen Grenzen Südasiens wanderten, um die Verfolgung von muslimischen Eindringlingen zu vermeiden, die im Prozess waren Iran erobern Zur Zeit der muslimischen Eroberung von Persien war die dominierende Religion der Region Zoroastrianismus. Die Iraner rebellierten seit fast 200 Jahren gegen arabische Invasoren; Im Iran ist diese Zeit heute als "Zwei Jahrhunderte des Schweigens" oder "Periode des Schweigens" bekannt. Während dieser Zeit haben viele Iraner, die jetzt Parsi genannt werden, beide Optionen abgelehnt und stattdessen beschlossen, Flucht zu nehmen, indem sie vom Iran nach Indien fliehen. Das Wort "Parsi" in der persischen Sprache bedeutet wörtlich Persisch. Perser ist die offizielle Sprache des modernen Iran, die auch als Persien bekannt ist.
