Das Fest wird auch White Sunday oder Whitsunday genannt, besonders in England, wo der folgende Montag traditionell ein Feiertag war. Pfingsten wird sieben Wochen nach Ostersonntag gefeiert. Pfingsten fällt auf den zehnten Tag nach Himmelfahrt Donnerstag. Die Pfingstbewegung des Christentums leitet sich von dem neutestamentlichen Ereignis ab.
