Polybius
Polybius war ein griechischer Historiker der hellenistischen Periode, der für seine Arbeit, die Geschichten, die die Periode von 264-146 v. Chr. Im Detail bedeckte, notierte. Die Opposition seines Vaters gegen die römische Kontrolle über Mazedonien führte zu seiner Gefangenschaft. Polybius wurde dann nach Rom deportiert, wo Lucius Aemilius Paulus ihn beschäftigte, um seine beiden Söhne zu unterrichten. Polybius hatte die Gelegenheit, nach Mazedonien 152 v. Chr. Zurückzukehren; Er wählte aber in Rom, als er damals seine Treue in die römische Republik gestellt hatte. Er wurde ein enger Freund des römischen Militärkommandanten Scipio Aemilianus, der den General nach Hispania und Afrika begleitete.
