Eine polynya oder polynia / pəlɪnjə / ist eine Fläche von offenem Wasser umgeben von Meereis. Es wird jetzt als geographischer Begriff für eine Fläche von ungefrorenem Meer in der Eispackung verwendet. Es ist ein Lehnwort aus dem Russisch: полынья russische Aussprache:, die sich auf ein natürliches Eisloch bezieht und im 19.
