Porphyrine sind eine Gruppe heterocyclischer, makrocyclischer organischer Verbindungen, die aus vier modifizierten Pyrrol-Untereinheiten zusammengesetzt sind, die an ihren \u0026 agr; -Kohlenstoffatomen über Methinbrücken (= CH-) miteinander verbunden sind. Viele Porphyrine sind natürlich vorkommend; Eines der bekanntesten Porphyrine ist Häm, das Pigment in roten Blutkörperchen, ein Kofaktor des Protein Hämoglobins.
