Prophase
Prophase, aus dem antiken griechischen πρό und φάσις, ist ein Stadium der Mitose, in dem das Chromatin in doppelstabförmige Strukturen konkurriert, die Chromosomen genannt werden, in denen das Chromatin sichtbar wird. Dieser Prozess, genannt Chromatinkondensation, ist mit dem Kondensatkomplex verbunden. Da das genetische Material in der vorherigen Interphase des Zellzyklus repliziert worden ist, gibt es zwei identische Kopien jedes Chromosoms in der Zelle. Diese Kopien werden Schwesterchromatiden genannt und sie sind aneinander an einem DNA-Element befestigt, das auf jedem Chromosom, dem Zentromer, vorhanden ist. Auch während der Prophase kann eine Giemsa-Färbung angewendet werden, um das G-Banding in Chromosomen hervorzurufen. Eine wichtige Organelle in der Mitose ist das Zentrosom, das Mikrotubuli-Organisationszentrum in Metazoanen. Während der Prophase haben die beiden Zentrosomen, die unabhängig von der Mitose replizieren, ihre Mikrotubuli-Aktivität aufgrund der Rekrutierung von γ-Tubulin erhöht. Die Zentrosomen werden durch die Wirkung von molekularen Motoren, die auf die Mikrotubuli wirken, auf die entgegengesetzten Enden des Zellkerns ausgeschoben. Grundsätzlich ist das Chromatin in den Nukleusspulen in Chromosomen.
