Pyromorphit ist eine mineralische Spezies, die aus Blei-Chlorophosphat besteht: Pb5 (PO4) 3Cl, die manchmal in ausreichender Häufigkeit auftritt, um als Blei-Blei abgebaut zu werden. Kristalle sind üblich und haben die Form eines sechseckigen Prismas, das durch die Basalebenen beendet wird, manchmal kombiniert mit schmalen Gesichtern einer sechseckigen Pyramide. Kristalle mit einer fassartigen Krümmung sind nicht ungewöhnlich. Globuläre und reniforme Massen finden sich auch. Es ist Teil einer Reihe mit zwei anderen Mineralien: Mimetit (Pb5 (AsO4) 3Cl) und Vanadinit (Pb5 (VO4) 3Cl), die Ähnlichkeit in äußeren Zeichen ist so nah, dass es in der Regel nur möglich ist, zwischen zu unterscheiden Sie durch chemische Tests. Sie waren früher unter den Namen grünes Blei und braunes Blei-Erz (deutsch: Grünbleierz und Braunbleierz) verwirrt. Das Phosphat wurde erstmals 1784 von M. H. Klaproth chemisch unterschrieben und wurde 1813 von J. F. L. Hausmann als Pyromorphit bezeichnet.
