Ranunculus
Ranunculus / rænʌŋkjʊləs / ist eine große Gattung von etwa 600 Pflanzenarten in den Ranunculaceae. Zu den Mitgliedern der Gattung gehören die Buttercups, Speerspitzen, Wasserfußballen und der kleinere Schöllkraut. Sie sind meist krautige Stauden mit leuchtend gelben oder weißen Blüten; Einige sind jährliche oder biennalen. Ein paar Arten haben orange oder rote Blüten. Es gibt gewöhnlich fünf Blütenblätter, aber manchmal sechs, zahlreich oder keine, wie in R. auricomus. Die Blütenblätter sind oft sehr glänzend, besonders bei gelben Spezies. Buttercups blühen gewöhnlich im Frühling, aber Blumen können während des Sommers gefunden werden, besonders dort, wo die Pflanzen als opportunistische Kolonisatoren wachsen, wie im Fall von Garten Unkraut. Die Wasser-Crowfoots, die in stillem oder fließendem Wasser wachsen, werden manchmal in einer separaten Gattung Batrachium behandelt. Sie haben zwei verschiedene Blatttypen, fadenartige Blätter unter Wasser und breitere, schwebende Blätter. Bei einigen Arten, wie z. B. R. aquatilis, tritt ein dritter Zwischenblatttyp auf. Ranunculus-Arten werden als Nahrungsmittelpflanzen durch die Larven von einigen Lepidoptera Arten einschließlich hebräischer Charakter und kleine Winkel-Schatten benutzt.
