Socotra
Socotra, auch geschrieben Soqotra, ist ein kleines Archipel von vier Inseln im Indischen Ozean. Die größte Insel, auch Socotra genannt, ist etwa 95% der Landmasse des Archipels. Es liegt etwa 240 Kilometer östlich des Horns von Afrika und 380 Kilometer südlich der Arabischen Halbinsel. Die Insel ist sehr isoliert und ein Drittel ihres Pflanzenlebens findet sich nirgendwo anders auf dem Planeten. Es wurde als "der fremdeste Ort auf der Erde" beschrieben. Die Insel misst 132 Kilometer lang und 49,7 Kilometer breit. Socotra ist Teil des Jemen. Es war schon lange ein Teil des Adan-Gouvernements. Im Jahr 2004 wurde es an die Hadhramaut-Governorate, die viel näher an der Insel als 'Adan.
