Spore
In der Biologie ist eine Spore eine Einheit der asexuellen Reproduktion, die für die Ausbreitung und für das Überleben, oft für längere Zeit, unter ungünstigen Bedingungen angepasst werden kann. Im Gegensatz dazu sind Gameten Einheiten der sexuellen Reproduktion. Sporen bilden einen Teil der Lebenszyklen vieler Pflanzen, Algen, Pilze und Protozoen. In Bakterien sind Sporen nicht Teil eines Sexualzyklus, sondern sind resistente Strukturen, die für das Überleben unter ungünstigen Bedingungen verwendet werden. Sporen sind meist haploid und einzellig und werden von der Meiose im Sporangium eines diploiden Sporophyten produziert. Unter günstigen Bedingungen kann sich die Spore zu einem neuen Organismus entwickeln, der mitotische Teilung verwendet, wodurch ein mehrzelliger Gametophyt erzeugt wird, der schließlich Gameten produziert. Zwei Gameten schmelzen zu einer Zygote, die sich zu einem neuen Sporophyten entwickelt. Dieser Zyklus ist als Wechsel von Generationen bekannt. Die Sporen von Samenpflanzen werden jedoch intern produziert und die in den Ovula gebildeten Megasporen und die Mikrosporen sind an der Bildung komplexerer Strukturen beteiligt, die die Ausbreitungseinheiten, die Samen und Pollenkörner bilden.
