Magnetrührer
Ein Magnetrührer oder Magnetmischer ist ein Laborgerät, das ein rotierendes Magnetfeld verwendet, um einen Rührstab (auch "Floh" genannt) zu betreten, der in eine Flüssigkeit eingetaucht ist, um sich sehr schnell zu drehen und so zu rühren. Das rotierende Feld kann entweder durch einen rotierenden Magneten oder einen Satz von stationären Elektromagneten erzeugt werden, die unter dem Gefäß mit der Flüssigkeit angeordnet sind. Da Glas kein Magnetfeld spürbar beeinträchtigt (es ist für den Magnetismus transparent), und die meisten chemischen Reaktionen finden in Glasgefäßen statt (d.h. siehe Becherglas (Glaswaren) oder Laborkolben), arbeiten Magnetrührer gut in Glasgefäßen. Auf der anderen Seite bedeutet die begrenzte Größe des Stabes, dass Magnetrührer nur für relativ kleine (unter 4 Liter) Experimente verwendet werden können. Sie haben auch Schwierigkeiten, mit viskosen Flüssigkeiten oder dicken Suspensionen umzugehen. Für größere Volumina oder mehr viskose Flüssigkeiten wird typischerweise irgendeine Art von mechanischem Rühren benötigt. Magnetrührer werden oft in Chemie und Biologie eingesetzt. Sie sind gegenüber getriebenen motorisierten Rührern bevorzugt, weil sie leiser, effizienter sind und keine beweglichen Außenteile zum Brechen oder Verschleiß haben (außer dem einfachen Stabmagneten selbst).
