Stoma
In der Botanik ist ein Stoma eine Pore, die in der Epidermis von Blättern, Stielen und anderen Organen gefunden wird, die zur Kontrolle des Gasaustauschs verwendet werden. Die Pore grenzt an ein Paar spezialisierter Parenchymzellen, die als Schutzzellen bekannt sind, die für die Regulierung der Größe der Öffnung verantwortlich sind. Der Begriff wird auch zusammen verwendet, um sich auf einen ganzen Stomatomplex zu beziehen, sowohl die Pore selbst als auch die dazugehörigen Schutzzellen. Luft, die Kohlendioxid und Sauerstoff enthält, tritt durch diese Öffnungen in die Pflanze ein und wird in der Photosynthese in den Mesophyllzellen bzw. Atmung verwendet. Sauerstoff, der als Nebenprodukt der Photosynthese produziert wird, diffundiert durch dieselben Öffnungen in die Atmosphäre. Auch Wasserdampf wird in die Atmosphäre durch diese Poren in einem Prozess namens transpiration freigesetzt. Stomata sind in der Sporophyten-Generation aller Land-Pflanzen-Gruppen außer Liverworts vorhanden. Dikotyledonen haben in der Regel mehr Stomata auf der unteren Epidermis als die obere Epidermis. Monokotyledonen, auf der anderen Seite, haben in der Regel die gleiche Anzahl von Stomata auf die beiden Epidermes.
