Abtretung ist die Rechtslehre, bei der eine Person die Rechte oder Abhilfemaßnahmen eines Gläubigers gegen seinen Schuldner übernimmt. In jedem Fall ist die Grundvoraussetzung, dass, wenn eine Person eine Zahlung auf eine Verpflichtung leistet, die im Gesetz die Hauptverantwortung einer anderen Partei ist, dann wird die Person, die die Zahlung leistet, den Ansprüchen der Person, denen sie gemacht wurden, unterworfen Zahlung in Bezug auf Ansprüche oder Rechtsbehelfe, die gegen die in erster Linie verantwortliche Partei ausübbar sind.
