Swiftlet
Swiftlets sind Vögel, die in den vier Gattungen Aerodramus, Hydrochous, Schoutedenapus und Collocalia enthalten sind. Sie bilden den Collocaliini Stamm in der schnellen Familie Apodidae. Die Gruppe enthält rund dreißig Arten, die meistens auf Südasien, Südpazifikinseln und Nordost-Australien beschränkt sind, alle in den tropischen und subtropischen Gebieten. Sie sind in vieler Hinsicht typische Mitglieder der Apodidae, mit engen Flügeln für den schnellen Flug, mit einem breiten gape und kleinen reduzierten Schnabel umgeben von Borsten für das Fangen von Insekten im Flug. Was viele, aber nicht alle Arten von anderen Swifts unterscheidet, und in der Tat fast alle anderen Vögel ist ihre Fähigkeit, eine einfache, aber effektive Form der Echolokation zu verwenden, um in völliger Dunkelheit durch die Abgründe und Wellen der Höhlen zu navigieren, wo sie nachts ruhen und züchten. Die Nester von einigen Arten sind vollständig aus Fäden ihres Speichels gebaut und werden für die berühmte chinesische Zartheit Vogel-Nest-Suppe gesammelt.
