Theseus
Theseus / θiːsiːəs / war der mythische Gründer-König von Athen und war der Sohn von Aethra von zwei Vätern: Aegeus und Poseidon. Theseus war ein Gründer-Held, wie Perseus, Cadmus oder Heracles, die alle kämpfen und übertreiben Feinde, die mit einer archaischen religiösen und gesellschaftlichen Ordnung identifiziert wurden. Als Herakles der dorische Held war, war Theseus ein Gründungsheld, der von den Athenern als eigener großer Reformator betrachtet wurde: Sein Name stammt aus der gleichen Wurzel wie θεσμός, griechisch für "The Gathering". Er war verantwortlich für die synoikismos - die politische Vereinigung von Attika unter Athen, vertreten emblematisch in seiner Reise der Arbeit, unterwerfen Oger und ungeheuerliche Tiere. Weil er der vereinigende König war, baute und besetzte Theseus einen Palast auf der Festung der Akropolis, die ähnlich dem Palast gewesen sein könnte, der in Mykene ausgegraben wurde. Pausanias berichtet, dass nach dem Synoikismos Theseus einen Kult der Aphrodite Pandemos und Peitho auf dem südlichen Abhang der Akropolis etabliert hat. Plutarchs Vita von Theseus nutzt verschiedene Berichte über den Tod des Minotaurus, Theseus 'Flucht und die Liebe der Ariadne für Theseus.
