Urdu
Urdu (ʊərduː /; Urdu: اردو ALA-LC: Urdū; IPA: (hören)), oder genauer Moderne Standard Urdu, ist ein standardisiertes Register der Hindustani Sprache. Urdu ist historisch mit den Muslimen der Region Hindustan verbunden. Es ist die Landessprache und lingua franca von Pakistan, und eine Amtssprache von sechs indischen Staaten und einer der 22 geplanten Sprachen in der Verfassung von Indien. Abgesehen von spezialisierten Vokabeln, ist Urdu gegenseitig verständlich mit Standard Hindi, die mit der Hindu-Gemeinschaft verbunden ist. Seit dem Ende der Mughal-Periode im neunzehnten Jahrhundert waren Sorten von Hindustani die lingua franca für viel von Südasien.
