Hermann Weyl
Hermann Klaus Hugo Weyl, ForMemRS (Deutsch: 9. November 1885 - 8. Dezember 1955) war ein deutscher Mathematiker, theoretischer Physiker und Philosoph. Obwohl ein Großteil seines Arbeitslebens in Zürich, der Schweiz und dann in Princeton verbracht wurde, ist er mit der Mathematik-Universität Göttingen verbunden, vertreten durch David Hilbert und Hermann Minkowski. Seine Forschung hat große Bedeutung für die theoretische Physik sowie rein mathematische Disziplinen einschließlich der Zahlentheorie. Er war einer der einflussreichsten Mathematiker des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts und ein wichtiges Mitglied des Instituts für Fortgeschrittene Studien in seinen frühen Jahren. Weyl veröffentlichte technische und einige allgemeine Arbeiten über Raum, Zeit, Materie, Philosophie, Logik, Symmetrie und die Geschichte der Mathematik. Er war einer der ersten, der sich vorstellt, die allgemeine Relativität mit den Gesetzen des Elektromagnetismus zu verbinden. Während kein Mathematiker seiner Generation den "Universalismus" von Henri Poincaré oder Hilbert anstrebte, kam Weyl so nah wie jeder.
