Wharenui
Ein Wharenui ist ein Gemeinschaftshaus des Māori-Volkes von Neuseeland, das im Allgemeinen als Schwerpunkt einer Marae liegt. Wharenui sind in der Regel Treffen Häuser in Neuseeland Englisch. Auch genannt whare rūnanga oder whare whakairo, die gegenwärtige Art von wharenui entstand im frühen bis mittleren neunzehnten Jahrhundert. Die Häuser sind oft innen und außen mit stilisierten Bildern der Vorfahren der Iwi geschnitzt, mit dem Stil, der für die Schnitzereien von Stamm zu Stamm verwendet wird. Moderne Besprechungshäuser werden nach regulären Gebäudestandards gebaut. Fotografien der letzten Ahnen können ebenso verwendet werden wie Schnitzereien. Die Häuser haben immer Namen, manchmal der Name eines berühmten Ahnen oder manchmal eine Figur aus der Māori-Mythologie. Einige Sitzungshäuser sind gebaut, wo viele Māori anwesend sind, obwohl es nicht die Lage eines Stammes ist; Typischerweise ein College oder eine Schule mit vielen Māori Studenten. Während ein Besprechungshaus als heilig gilt, ist es keine Kirche oder ein Gotteshaus, aber religiöse Rituale können vor oder in einem Besprechungshaus stattfinden. Auf den meisten Marien kann kein Essen in das Besprechungshaus gebracht werden.
